Develop Your Website

A website is for life not just for Christmas! Your website is one of the main focal points of your companies marketing activities. If you do nothing else you must spend half an hour a week looking at your own website using the eyes of your customers. Modify it and adjust it until it is right for them NOT FOR YOU. The articles on this page are here to help and stimulate you to think like your customers and develop the site they need, not the site you want.

Marketing WOF

Marketing WOF

The first question I ask customers when I visit them to discuss their needs is “What do you want your website to do”. The question is equally valid for your live website as for a new site.

Many people think of websites as stand alone things rather than considering them as part of a plan, your marketing plan.

I freely admit that it wasn't until the beginning of this year that we developed a marketing plan for W3 Design. Until then we had seen ourselves 'get by', work kept coming in, but we didn't seem to be moving forward. I then decided to listen to the advice I was giving on a daily basis to customers and worked out a marketing plan.

The first and most important thing we did was to work out who we are and just what we were offering to customers. We examined what marketing activity had succeeded for us in the past and what had failed. We did an extensive review of the work and websites of the companies we considered to be competitors. From this research and the knowledge of what we want to achieve as a company we developed a plan of action.

The plan lists what we believe to be the most effective tools for us to use and sets out a planned activity schedule for conducting the effective activities. Then we started to do it.

We are currently re designing our own W3 website. It is 4 years old, it isn't mobile friendly and we have new ideas and services we want to promote, so it is time for a change.

We can get stuck in a rut and coast through on the 'it's going okay' and sometimes forget to review where we think we are going compared to where we actually are. By reviewing your website and marketing plan as a whole and on a regular basis you can ensure you are focusing on the right things and delivering the right message.
